Decolonizing Linguistics and Inclusion in Linguistics are in print!

Four years in the making– Decolonizing Linguistics and Inclusion in Linguistics are finally here! Anne Charity Hudley and Mary Bucholtz and I could not be prouder to have shepherded into print these 900 total pages of cutting-edge research and insights into how to make linguistics a more inclusive and equitable discipline via the contributions of dozens of amazing scholars of language from around the world.

As the Oxford University Press website notes, each volume “offers unprecedented concrete guidance for advancing social justice in all subfields of linguistics and in all aspects of the field, including research, teaching, community partnerships, and public engagement; provides direct evidence-based action items for departments, researchers, teachers, and other professionals in the field; and features insight from scholars with a broad scope of experiences across the field.” The volumes will officially be released open access next Friday, March 1, 2024!

Both volumes are dedicated to Jon Henner, our contributor and co-editor on the introduction and conclusion to the Inclusion volume. Jon’s passing during the production of these volumes leaves a void in the field and in our hearts that can never be filled, but his words and his brilliance live on and continue to inspire us all.

Thank you to everyone who contributed in each way to the making of these volumes, from each contributor to both volumes, to all of the institutions and organizations that helped fund the work and make it open access, to the students who worked on these volumes — especially my GA Kara Seidel who was indispensable in helping coordinate everyone’s contributions in all their iterations, to our editorial and production teams, and to everyone else who has supported and cheered us along on this years-long endeavor — our acknowledgements tell the whole story about how these volumes are truly a community-based effort.
